Physics on the Nanoscale

The main questions to be answered in this lecture are:

  • What happens to materials if the size is downscaled into the regime, where eg. quantum effects become relevant?
  • Which new properties show up?
  • How to measure them?
  • And how to apply the new functionalities for devices and applications?

Aims: Understanding relevant lengths scales for different properties, general consequences and concepts, and their potential for applictions.
