At the forefront of modern climate change research are time-series observations of atmospheric CO₂ and related species, such as atmospheric O₂. These records now span many decades, providing unequivocal evidence of the profound influence of humans on the planet - particularly through the burning of fossil fuels. This talk will chart the history of this field, from the early measurements and scientific puzzles to the ongoing challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change.
