The motion of single impurities in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is a paradigmatic many-body scenario and a theoretical challenge, especially in the regime of strong interactions between the BEC and impurities. Experimentally, such a Polaron problem can be implemented using an atomic mixture, where one species realizes the impurity, while the BEC is realized with the other species. The interactions can be controlled by inter-species Feshbach resonances, which are known to be sizable between sodium and potassium. We are currently setting up the experiment in a new lab and are looking for motivated new group members.
