Thermal Expansion studies on 1D and 2D quantum spin systems
Thermal expansion studies provide relevant information on the interplay of electronic, magnetic, and structure degrees of freedom. It allows experimental studies of length changes below 1 Ångström-Bereich. It will be applied to study Haldane chains and layered hexagonal spin lattices. The experiments will be performed at temperatures down to 2 K and in a superconducting magnet providing magnetic fields up to 17 T.
