Abstract (de)

Abstract (en)

The Mu3e experiment searches for the lepton flavour violating decay μ+ → e+e+e− at the Paul-Scherrer Institute in Villigen Switzerland. It aims to improve the existing limit from 10−12 to 10−16. Therefore a high momentum, vertex and time resolution are necessary, which are achieved
with pixel, scintillating fibre and scintillating tile detectors. The tile detector aims to achieve a time resolution smaller than 100 ps, this can only be realized if the correct timing information is assigned to the right particle. Therefore, the aim of this work was to develop an ”energy flow” clustering algorithm for the tile detector. This algorithm solved problems of existing clustering algorithms and was tested on both data from the commissioning beam time in 2025 and on simulated data. The simulation made it possible to calculate the spatial efficiency of the estimated particle hit to be 97 % within 1 cm of the real hit. The timing efficiency lies at 89.7 % for values closer than 100 ps.
