Ultralow temperatures
A. Reiser, C. Enss
Copper rod for the demagnetization stage
of the cryostat. Weight approx. 18 kg
Presently, a cryostat is being installed at the institute that will be able to reach temperatures well below 0.1 mK. It is a dilution refrigerator followed by a nuclear demagnetization stage which had formerly been installed at the University of Bayreuth, and where it has reached the low-temperature world record of 1.5 ľK
With this cryostat the dynamics of complex systems at ultralow temperatures will be investigated. Amongst others, experiments on metallic glasses, on microscopic systems, and on spin glasses are planned.
