Abstract (de)

Abstract (en)

This diploma thesis describes the design and implementation of some components for a new
experiment on ultracold quantum gases. We use the fermionic species 6Li and the bosonic species
23Na. First a Zeeman slower for the simultaneous deceleration of both atomic species is described,
which is the first stage of our multi-step cooling strategy. The functionality of the slower was
verified by measuring the loading rate of a magneto-optical trap. In addition, this thesis investigates
the motion of atoms inside the slower.

A computer control system for the new experiment was designed during the second part of this
thesis. It allows for a complete automation of the experiments and reaches a time resolution which
is better than 10ms. The control system is modular and provides open interfaces to communicate
with other software in the lab, such as the data analysis programs. Experimental sequences may be
defined by using a comprehensive description language. The language and its processing by the
control system is described in detail.
