Recent highlights from the Run-2 data taking period of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented. From a personal perspective, the talk will give insight into the challenges of taking, analysing and interpreting the Run-2 data. Selected results on searches for new particles and phenomena as well as from precision analyses testing the limits of the Standard Model will be shown; this includes recent results on Higgs physics and searches for dark matter production.
